WINNEMUCCA SCULPTURE PLACED IN PARK

Artist Benjamin Victor’s bronze 3-foot sculpture of Sarah Winnemucca has been installed at Hill Center North Business Park in Summerlin. The original 6-foot sculpture represents Nevada in the National Statuary Hall Collection in the U.S. Capitol. The sculpture in Washington, D.C. is one of only four American Indian sculptures in the National Statuary Hall Collection and one of only two that depict American Indian women. The other is of Sacajawea. Sarah Winnemucca was a Northern Paiute born around 1844. She worked for the rights of women and Paiutes.
